What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implant placement, also known as implant restoration, is a technique used to replace missing teeth by surgically inserting a titanium artificial tooth root into the jawbone at the site of the lost tooth. A dental crown is then attached to the implant to restore both the aesthetics and function of the missing tooth.

Types of Implants at Herident Dental Clinic

Straumann Implant (Switzerland)
Currently recognized as the only implant with 'hydrophilic' properties, Straumann implants offer exceptional benefits with their anti-rotation design and ease of placement into the jawbone. The SLActive biological membrane coating enhances bone integration, reducing the healing time from 3-6 months to just 6-8 weeks. Additionally, Straumann implants boast superior strength and durability compared to other implant systems.
Dentium Implant (USA)
The implant surface is treated with SLA sandblasting combined with large-grit particles and acid etching, creating optimal conditions for bone cell growth. Its design features double-threaded grooves along the implant body, facilitating firm bone adhesion and accelerated bone development. The tapered shape ensures even force distribution across the surface. The implant-abutment connection is conical with an internal hexagonal interface, enhancing the precision fit and stability between the implant, abutment, and porcelain crown.
Dio Implant (South Korea)
The surface of the Dio implant is micro-sandblasted and micro-textured to enhance bone adhesion. Combined with spiral grooves along the implant body, it facilitates optimal bone growth and firm integration. The connection between the abutment and the implant features a ten-thread structure, ensuring high stability during the restoration process. Additionally, its subgingival placement of up to 3mm provides excellent aesthetics, mimicking the natural emergence of a real tooth from the gums.

Dental Implant Placement Procedure

Step 1 Extracting Damaged Teeth Due to Decay, Fracture, or Breakage
After extracting the damaged tooth, patients need to wait for the wound to heal and the bone to regenerate (approximately 3 months) or opt for immediate implant placement. In cases where there is insufficient bone volume, the dentist may plan for a sinus lift or bone grafting procedure.
Step 2 Implant Placement
Proceed with Implant Placement if the Jawbone Has Sufficient Volume
Step 3 Wait for the Implant to Integrate with the Jawbone
After implant placement, patients need to attend regular check-ups and wait for the implant to integrate with the jawbone, which typically takes around 3-6 months. During this period, a temporary tooth restoration will be provided to maintain aesthetics in the missing tooth area.

Combining the standards set by the Ministry of Health and global knowledge of sterilization practices in surgery, the sterilization protocol at Herident is a result of years of research and personal experience by Dr. Dang Trieu Hung, MD, PhD. to ensure that the dental environment remains clean, safe, and free from cross-contamination. The protocol is built around three key highlights:

  • Closed-loop process: one-way flow from used to clean instruments
  • Dividing the entire sterilization process into 4 distinct zones; each staff member is thoroughly trained to follow the 8-step sterilization process meticulously, as required by regulations. We place a strong emphasis on checking the expiration date and monitoring the storage temperature of each instrument set.
  • Modern equipment, regularly inspected and maintained.

We understand that safety is the top concern when choosing a healthcare solution. Herident’s 25-year journey of empathy and understanding every customer’s concern has been the foundation of our dedicated service and steady growth to this day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

Dental implant surgery is typically painless as it is performed under local anesthesia. After the procedure, you may experience mild pain or discomfort for a few days, but this can be managed with pain relievers. Most patients feel comfortable once the implantation process is complete.

The dental implant procedure typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour per implant, depending on the complexity of the case. After placement, the implant requires a healing period to integrate with the jawbone, which usually takes between 3 to 6 months before the final crown can be attached.

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. However, to ensure long-term durability, it is essential to maintain good oral hygiene, attend regular dental check-ups, and avoid habits that could damage the implant, such as teeth grinding or chewing hard objects.

In many cases, a dental implant can be placed immediately after tooth extraction if the jawbone is in good condition and there is no infection. However, if the jawbone requires healing or bone grafting, the dentist may recommend waiting for a certain period before proceeding with the implant placement.

Dental implant surgery is a safe procedure with a high success rate. However, like any surgical procedure, it carries a small risk of complications such as infection, nerve damage, or implant failure to integrate with the bone. Your dentist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your health and oral condition before the procedure to ensure the highest level of safety.
