What is Dental Crown Restoration?
Dental crown restoration is a dental restoration method that can address the color, shape, and function of damaged, decayed, or misaligned teeth.
After the natural tooth is shaved down to a certain extent (depending on the technique), the dental crown can either completely cover the original tooth or be placed over a single surface of the tooth. Certain techniques, such as dental implants, use 100% porcelain crowns placed on implant posts to replace missing teeth.
The characteristic of restoration with porcelain teeth is their natural color, suitable for all types of teeth, from front teeth to molars. No matter where the tooth is located, both the aesthetics and the quality of the tooth can be improved.

Types of High-End Dental Crown Restorations
Based on removability, porcelain dental restorations are divided into two main categories: removable and fixed restorations, specifically as follows:
Removable Restoration
Removable dental restorations involve the use of dentures that can be conveniently taken out and reinserted. These prosthetic teeth replace part or all of the missing natural teeth. This method is typically applied in cases of multiple tooth loss or full-mouth tooth loss.
The denture base is made from hard or flexible acrylic. On top of the base are artificial teeth made from porcelain or plastic. Some designs also include metal clasps to help secure the denture to the jawbone.
Fixed Dental Restoration
Fixed porcelain dental restorations are widely applied in Vietnam. In this method, the porcelain crown is permanently attached to the jaw using an implant post or by shaving down the natural tooth. Once fixed, the crown offers high durability and can restore up to 90% of the natural tooth’s function and aesthetics.
In general, fixed porcelain restorations are highly durable and provide excellent chewing ability. After placement, patients often feel comfortable without any obstruction. However, the cost for fixed restorations is higher than that of removable dentures, and the procedure also takes longer.

High-End Fixed Porcelain Restoration Techniques
There are five common techniques used in fixed porcelain dental restorations:
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers involve applying an ultra-thin layer of porcelain, about 0.2–0.5mm thick, to the front surface of the teeth after minimal enamel reduction (equal to the thickness of the veneer). This method is used to improve the appearance of discolored, slightly chipped, slightly gapped, or misshapen teeth.
Porcelain Crowns
Porcelain crowns involve covering the entire visible surface of a tooth with a porcelain cap. Before placing the crown, the natural tooth must be shaved down by about 0.3–0.5mm. This method is applied to teeth with large cavities, broken or fractured teeth, severely stained teeth, or teeth that have undergone root canal treatment.
The natural tooth underneath is protected, preventing sensitivity or discomfort. When high-quality porcelain is used, the crown’s lifespan can reach up to 30 years or more.

Dental Bridges
The dental bridge technique is used to replace one or several missing teeth. The adjacent natural teeth are prepared similarly to the porcelain crown or veneer technique, usually involving 2–3 neighboring teeth to serve as abutments. After the teeth are filed down, the replacement tooth is securely attached between the supporting teeth.
Dental Implant Placement
The dental implant restoration technique uses an implant post placed into the jawbone to replace the missing tooth root. A porcelain crown is then attached on top, restoring the full tooth structure. The restored tooth functions like a natural one and also helps prevent jawbone loss.
